Sun Tracking Solar Panel w/ Arduino
I had some small solar panels laying around and wanted to see if they would power the Arduino. They did. So, I wanted to see if I could make a sun tracking circuit to autonomously follow the sun throughout the day. So I did. Here is the result.

I'm a 38 year-old electrical engineer from Southern California.

Why not make the arduino sleep for 60 seconds inbetween each correction? that way you could pretty much eliminate the power usage of the controller + servo, and still collect the vast majority of power?
Yeah – well said.
The set up looks like it is constantly readjusting itself. Maybe add delay function so it moves once every 5 minutes or so, to improve efficiency.
Nice small project
Learn on my channel how to build very cheap solar panels
Cool its like a robot sunflower.
very nice thought
An actuator with a couple of relays mounted on an office chair or something would work fantastic too with a useful larger array.
hey can you place the code up
Hi do you have the schematics and the code for that project?
If you can hook me up that would be fantastic.
Cheers
awesome, next add a second axis and make it track the exact position of the sun
um.. he said in the vid it’s a servo
Incredible, does it turn through a motor ? and if so what kind of motor do you use for such rotation.
Very cool! I’m ordering an arduino this weekend. My wife is dying to get her hands in it too. We’re geeks
can you show how to make it or the wiring?
can you show
Fantastic job!

haha….
hehe… one morning the sun will shine into your room causing the panels to turn to the right by 180deg and down goes the board!
Do you need a servo shield with that, or is the arduino working on its own? It seems to me that it could be made with only two photoresistors, but what do I know? Like everyone else, I’m interested in code and wiring! Thanks for posting this!
The egocentric vested interests of huge oil and coal will not be pleased.
Clean! Any chance you feel like sharing the code?
cool, where’d you get your photoresistors from?
Slick. You mention ‘wired in parallel’ but it would be nice to have the schematics of the transistor board.
code please on the arduino forum tell me please if you post it. thx
